3 Tips to Declutter Your Mind You’d Actually Want to Try.
Our stuff, whether it's the actual stuff you can see in your physical environment or the more subtle matters like your to-do list, your should’s and don’t that floats around in your mind + alllll the social media notifications and news feed pings that’s constantly competing for your attention, all affects your precious mental energy.
Too much *stuff* of one or the other will not only make it difficult to get things done, it will also drain, overwhelm and frustrate you.
Here’s how that can look like:
Our desires and needs become blurry. We settle for unhealthy, unfulfilling things and people. We take on addictive behaviours. Lose our connection to ourselves. Experience more frequent episodes of stress, anxiety and general mental overwhelm and chaos.
So if you want to get out of the stuckness, get back into taking inspired action, doing things that helps you, rather than distracts you, and accelerate the change YOU WANT in your life; it’s time to take an honest look at all that you have accumulated, external as well as internal!
It’s time for some decluttering!:
TIP 1. Keep a journal.
Create a space for your inner chatter and write down daily all your thoughts, worries, concerns, doubts, plans, ideas, things to remember. Journaling is a great way to relax your mind by analysing and organising your thoughts.
TIP 2. Limit the information you take in.
Books, newspapers, newsletters, magazines, blogs, e-mails, social media, podcasts, YouTube - there’s a lot of information we take in each day. Be selective and intentional with what and how much you allow in.
TIP 3. Breathe.
Take a deep breath. Pause. Exhale slowly. Repeat. Deep breathing is a simple yet effective technique to clear your mind, induce tranquility and elevate your mood, instantly.
The simple act of beginning a decluttering process kickstarts a new set of habits that you’ll find are transferable to other areas of your life. The secret is simply to begin!
